OK, so I'm a bit of a douche. BUT... I have finally added Oberlin Chopsuey to Google Reader, so I should be much more "in the mix" from now on.

It turns out that I have a new job. And this job is actually zAmazing. ZOMG!! We shall call it "Postal Monkey" for the purposes of this post-- otherwise everyone (all 12 of 'em) who works at said company will get a Google Alert update thingy that links here. Anyhow, I'm really excited to be managing this company's social media presence, blogging, etc... FYI, my professional title is actually "Subliminal Marketing Manager". Yes indeed. It's right up my alley.

OSCA Training Video

many, if not most of you, were involved in producing the OSCA Training Video-- It's Not a Co-op, It's a Way of Life! i realize that you hep cats may have already figured out that the video is online, but the link should surely be posted on the OberlinChopsuey blog! ... if for no other reason than posterity, i say.

unfortunately, with the untimely death of another external firewire hard drive this week (my video work drive), i have been thinking too much and too often about the fallibility technology. i've come to the conclusion that the best thing i can do is share things as they're created-- good, bad, ugly, or lacking technical proficiency. what good is an archive of stuff, if no one knows it exists or has access to it? but seriously folks... being involved in video production these days (as a profession), and looking back on early projects like the OSCA Training Video or Mike Dooley's moonshine documentary, i can't help but smile a bit. these things help me see not only where i've come from, but also where i'm at and even where i'm going.

oh, and thanks for bearing with me as i wax nostalgic.

Well not really. But I did see like six of his bat-motorcycles. They're shooting the next batman movie in front of where I work, so when I left the building last night there was a forklift carrying a wrecked helicopter up the street. It was followed by a couple Gotham Police Department paddy wagons (the Gotham City license plates use the same colors and fonts as Illinois). On a blocked-off side street they were storing six copies of the bat-motorcyle (or "bat-pod" as the kids are calling it). If they're still here next week I might go be an extra, because that would look awesome on my resume.

Its called the Iraq Summer Campaign. Its based on the idea of the Vietnam Summer campaign except we have cell phones instead of long hair (well, kinda long hair).
The hours suck and the pay aint great but it is going to be awesome when it works. My job is to tangle with a Congressman. Wake up every morning thinking about how I can make Congressman Johnson wake up every morning thinking about Iraq.

Y'all should check it out, because there might be someone near you, and if they are anything like me, they need all the help they can get. Damn this is a lot of work.
